As usual this year also Department of Physics formed the Physics Society.
It was inaugurated on 11th September, 2006 at the hands of eminent Physicist,
thinker and writer Dr. Sanjay Lambade.
Mr. Sameer Dubey from B.Sc. final year was elected as the President of the
Society.
A guest lecture Physics: A Natural Philosophy was also delivered by Dr.
Lambade at this occasion.
A quiz competition for the students of Physics department was organized on
21st September, 2006.
Winners of this quiz competition were Mr. Stanly Wilson Mr. Ahtesham
Khan and Mr. Ratan Lishram all from first year.
On the eve of Golden Jubilee of the College Physics Society organized a
science exhibition (PSSE). Nearly twenty entries were displayed in the working
Model category in this exhibition. The exhibition was inaugurated at the hands
Rev. Fr. Father Anthony D’Souza, Principal, SFS College. In the category of
working model first prize was won by ‘Simple Microscope’ designed by Mr. Satish
Pandey and Mr. Pravin Kumar. The second prize was given to ‘Thermocol Cutter’
designed by Ku. Ankita walde and Ku. Mrunali Kapde. The third prize was given to
‘Railway Gate Automization and track security’ designed by Mr. Abdul Naim, Mr.
Ahtesham Khan and Mr. Mukul Bobade.
In the posters category the first prize was won by a poster on ‘Ruby Laser’
submitted by Mr. John Paul from second year The second prize was won by a poster
on ‘X-Ray tube’ submitted by Mr. Chandramani Rangari. The third prize was won by
the poster on ‘Polarization of Light’ prepared by Ku. Nargis Quazi and Ku.

Other attractions of the exhibition were models on Colour Sensor, Emergency
light, Quiz Board, Biological Batteries, Human Battery, Fire Alarm, Solar Cell,
Centralized Garbage collection system and Surface tension demonstration. In
posters, the main attractions were Direct Vision Spectroscope, Human Eye, Joule
Thomson Effect and Solar cell. The exhibition was well appreciated by all the
teachers and visitors.
As a part of golden Jubilee celebrations College also organized ‘Arts
and Science Exhibition- Innovations’. Some best entries were selected to
participate in Innovations.
RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur organized an intercollegiate science exhibition
Avishkar-2006. Two entries ‘Emergency Light’ designed by Mr . Sameer dubey and
‘Railway Gate Automization and track security’ designed by Mr. Abdul Naim, Mr.
Ahtesham Khan and Mr. Mukul Bobade were selected to participate in this
Exhibition.
Closing ceremony for Physics Society was held on 18th January 2007. All the
winners of various events were awarded at the hands of Rev. Fr. Father Principal
Anthony D’Souza. All the active office bearers of Physics Society were honored
with the certificate of Excellency for their contribution to Society.
One of the staff members Dr. Pramodkumar Sakharkar has been sanctioned a
minor Research Project by UGC entitled ‘Preparation and characterization of
using Glass as centering aid’. Through this project the Department of Physics
has opened a new avenue for undertaking independent research project from
different funding agencies.
