National Service Scheme


Information about NSS:

The N S S is an extension program of Nagpur University. The N S S was started in 1977. The first N S S Program Officer was Mr. A.K. Zade. After him Mr A. W. Imane took over the charge. He served this unit up to May 2001. After the retirement of Mr. A.W. Imane, Dr. Joseph Benjamin, Head of the department of Political Science, took over the charge of N S S. For the smooth functioning of this unit, Principal of the college appointed Mrs. Sujata Janardhan, lecturer in the department of Mathematics, as an assistant.

The N S S has basically two types of activities viz.
(i) Regular Activities
(ii) Special Camp (Village Camp).
In the category of Regular activities there are various works done by the N S S volunteers through out the years.

(a) Campus cleanliness drive.
(b) Tree plantation.
(c) AIDS Awareness program.
(d) Street Play on Alcoholism, Corruption and Unemployment, etc.
(e) Police Patrolling during Ganpati Visharjan.
(f) Visit to social work centers.
(g) Rally on various themes.
(h) Seminar / Workshop on various themes.
(i) Rehabilitation work.


For Special Camp, a village is selected for the camp. 50 students of NSS are taken to village. The camp is helped by the village Sarpanch.
Village camp is planned in advance. The N S S volunteers are divided in many groups. The tasks that the N S S volunteers take during the village camp are:

(a) Interaction session with villagers.
(b) Cleanliness drive.
(c) Street play, on Superstition, Alcoholism, etc.
(d) Free Medical camp for the villagers.
(e) Tree plantation.
(f) Cultural programs
(g) Interaction with Village Panchayat & Primary School Teachers.

Volunteers take part in State / National seminars and workshops. The students have already participated in state / National seminars / workshops. The places where the students were sent for the National camp are: Eluru, Bangalore, Hampi, Pune, Wardha, Delhi & Bombay


INCENTIVE MARKS GIVEN

Participation in Regular NSS- Program (Minimum 120 hours in 2 Years) [3 Marks].
Participation in NSS special camp at collage level) - [3 Marks].
Participation in University or State /National level camp. [4 Marks]
